Testimonials: We were so worried about our son's lack of speech development at age 2 (only speaking 2 or 3 words). Children's Therapy Services came to our home once a week to work with him and give us, as a family, further assistance in continuing his therapy daily. CTS was and still is such a blessing! Our family was so amazed at how Pierce was progressing after a short period of time. Their constant dedication and love for him was over and beyond what we had ever expected. CTS is such a wonderful trusting resource as well. We feel confident that he will continue to progress with flying colors! We hold CTS dear and near to our hearts! Brandi Our daughter has been with Childrens Therapy Services for several months and we see such an improvement. She enjoys so much working with Ashley Brown, her speech therapist. Since she is in theatre, stuttering has been her big fear which therefore made her not want a leading role. Now, not only did she have the confidence to try for a speaking role, she got the leading role. Working with Ashley has given her skills in which she can now do want she has wanted to do and feel confident that she CAN do it. Thank you for all you have done for our daughter and her future. My name is Kannice; my son (Quentin) has been in the First Steps program since he was 3 months old. He was born 24 weeks gestation and weighed 660 grams (1lb 7oz). He started receiving services for his anticipated delays, but at the age of 2 he was diagnosed with Autism. He was receiving speech therapy through another company, but I never noticed any progress. I contacted his First Steps coordinator to help me find a new therapist, and she did. Amy McDonald contacted me 2 days after my coordinator notified us that we may have a new therapist. From the first time I spoke with her on the phone she gave me the hope I had been searching for regarding my son’s speech. Since the first day Amy came to our home and met Quentin he has had consistent progress. I love receiving the daily updates she gives each time she see’s Quintin. She has a positive attitude that rubs off on him even on his bad days. I feel Children’s Therapy Services has put together a great program for children with special needs that will help them grow as individuals. The things my son has learned just in a few weeks he has worked with Amy, he uses in his everyday life. As a mother of a child with Autism, people and organizations such as Children’s Therapy Services can chage your life. Thank you for what you do! When my son was 2 years old, he was diagnosed with Autism (PDD NOS). He was non-verbal, physically aggressive towards himself and others, and had many other "issues.” I knew some signs, so I had some hope! The doctor suggested Missouri First Steps program and we began services. Through this program my son was eligible for Speech Therapy and I had to pick a therapist from a list of names. Jennie Bjorem's name was on this list. I chose her because she was close by and I liked her name! I had nothing else to go by and I was new to all this! Jennie came to the house and did some testing/screening. I didn't have high hopes. My son just didn't seem to participate. Shortly after that she had her first visit. Nothing of interest really happened and I still had concerns. But, Jennie sensed something. She was only to see my son twice a week. And this first visit was on a Thursday and she wouldn't see him again until Tuesday. She felt strongly that he needed to be seen again before the next visit. She sensed something and wanted to see him on a Saturday. I was surprised at her request to come on what should have been her day off. I wanted to take full advantage of her services, so I agreed to the Saturday visit. Well, it proved to be a HUGE turning point in our lives. Whatever it was that Jennie had sensed had proved to be right! She miraculously got "through" to my son!! It wasn't too long after that that my non-verbal son was speaking! He is now in Kindergarten and in a regular class room!! A day doesn't go by that I don't thank God for bringing Jennie into our lives. I can't help but wonder where we would be had she not come on that Saturday! These children have little windows of opportunity! Because of her intuitiveness, she found many more of these "windows"! Jennie, I thank you!! I can't express enough how much you have done for my son!! THANK YOU!!! My ten-year-old son has been working with Ashley Brown for about 18 months now. When we first came to her, he had a pretty severe case of stuttering and blocking. He was really struggling at school as well as at home with his speech. He had a lot of frustration and tears because he didn’t know how to “fix”, or at least deal with, his speech problem. I had researched every stuttering website I could find, but couldn’t seem to help him at all. We found out about Ashley through our pediatrician’s office and made an appointment with her. I was apprehensive about our first meeting with Ashley and had many questions. Ashley was patient and supportive- and full of information; we knew we had come to the right person! Ashley established a connection with our son from the very beginning. She played games with him to teach him strategies to be more fluent, but also commanded his attention if he wasn’t trying his best. She used age-appropriate analogies that he could understand in order to explain the more difficult concepts and always reinforced what they had learned by giving him “homework” assignments to practice in between sessions. Over the course of the last year and a half, we have had some bumps in the road. There have been times when he has struggled extra hard with his speech. Ashley always reassures him and talks to him about what is going wrong, and then they work on a specific target that he can use to work through his problem easier. She has also taken the time to allow me to sit in on sessions and explain a little more to me about the strategies and what I can do to assist when he is struggling. I feel that my son has benefited greatly from the fact that I understand his strategies and can make suggestions to him when he’s having a hard time. Ashley is always willing to take the time to talk to me when I feel frustrated or overwhelmed with his disfluency and offers me encouragement and helpful suggestions. Over the past eighteen months, our son’s speech has improved immensely because of the strategies that Ashley has taught him and practiced with him. His overall confidence in himself and his ability to deal with his speech has increased. He uses the targets/strategies that he has learned to cope with his disfluencies when he has them instead of becoming frustrated and defeated. Ashley is excellent at what she does. She is incredibly knowledgeable as well as personable. She is always confident, honest, calm and willing to listen. She has a gift for establishing a relationship with her patients based on respect; they realize that when they apply the strategies she teaches them, their speech improves. This gives them confidence in Ashley as well as in themselves. I know that having Ashley as our speech therapist has given our son, as well as our family, the peaceful confidence that we can actually work through this situation. She has made huge difference in all of our lives. Amy I'm writing to let you know how pleased I've been with Sarah She was always on time, prepared, professional and most of all, practical. She brought some great ideas that were things that could be utilized and carried out in the home. Being a special education teacher myself, I found our ideas able to coincide. We will miss Sarah while she goes on maternity leave, but are very happy she was able to work with my daughter. I believe when someone performs a job well done they should at least be acknowledged. So here's to a pat on the back to Sarah, she's a great therapist you have on your team. Thanks |
